Local search rewards consistency more than cleverness. This is the order I work through for a business in Kannur or anywhere else in Kerala.
Start with how people actually search
Local searches are short, mobile and intent-heavy: a service plus a place, sometimes with 'near me'. Write down the ten phrases a real customer would type, including the ones that mention Taliparamba, Payyanur or Thalassery, and build pages around those rather than around industry jargon.
Give each service and each area a real page
One page trying to cover every service in every town ranks for none of them. A page per main service, and a page per area you genuinely serve, gives search engines something specific to match — provided each page has real content and not a find-and-replace of the town name.
Fix the on-page basics
- One clear H1 per page that includes the service and the place
- A title under about 60 characters and a description under about 155
- Address and phone number visible in text, not only inside an image
- Internal links between related service pages and blog posts
- Descriptive alt text on photos of real work
Make the listings agree with each other
Your name, address and phone number must be identical on Google Business Profile, JustDial, Sulekha, IndiaMART, Facebook and your own site. Mismatched entries — an old number, a shortened street name — quietly hold back local rankings.
Then speed and mobile
Almost all local traffic in Kerala is mobile. Compress images, avoid heavy sliders, and make sure the call and WhatsApp buttons are reachable with a thumb. A page that loads in two seconds converts noticeably better than one that takes six.
Review it monthly
Track calls, WhatsApp enquiries and form submissions, not just rankings. Rankings are a means; enquiries are the point.
